How to use a margin loan

Before you start trading, you’ll need to transfer collateral onto your margin loan. The types of collateral you can provide are: accepted shares (equities), accepted managed funds, or cash. Here’s how to find the list of Accepted ASX Listed Equities and Accepted Managed Funds on our website:

  1. Log in to your CommSec account
  2. Go to "Products", then select "Margin Loan"
  3. Click on "How it works" and then look for the link to each list

Once you’ve transferred collateral onto your margin loan, you can utilise your updated lending value and place a trade online. Just log in to your CommSec account, go to Trading, select your Margin Loan Account (the account number will start with 7 or 8) and proceed with your order details.

For help with your margin loan, please call CommSec Margin Lending on 13 17 09 or +61 8397 1351 if calling from overseas (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, Sydney time).
