How do I transfer shares held with CommSec to the share registry?

If you want to transfer shares from your CommSec account to the share registry to become issuer-sponsored shares, you can do so in what is known as a CHESS-to-Issuer share transfer.

What to check before you start your transfer

  • The number of units being transferred.
  • The shares are linked to a Holder Identification Number (HIN) which starts with the letter X.
  • The shares held in your CommSec account are registered in the exact same name and salutation as the share registry account you are transferring these shares into. For example, transferring from MR JOHN SMITH to MR JOHN SMITH.
  • The shares held in your CommSec account are registered in the exact same postal address as the share registry account you are transferring these shares into. For example, 1 NAME ST to 1 NAME ST.

What you'll need to complete your transfer

  • Your HIN.
  • Your name, salutation and postal address on your share registry account and your CommSec account must match.
  • The full name of the account.

Find your HIN and confirm your account details by looking at the most recent CommSec statement.

How to transfer your shares

You can transfer shares from your CommSec account to the share registry over the phone:

  • Call us on 13 15 19 from 8am to 6pm (Sydney time), Monday to Friday.
  • A Client Service Officer will action a verbal request to transfer your shares to the share registry.

What happens next

A new holding statement will be issued to you from the share registry within about two weeks of your transfer request submission, which will include your new Shareholder Reference Number (SRN).
